@RustyCrab@clubcyberia.co @professionalbigot69@poa.st When they tried to make 48fps movies it pissed off a lot of people; like with the Hobbit movie.

@PurpCat@clubcyberia.co @RustyCrab@clubcyberia.co @professionalbigot69@poa.st cuz they're all used to "cinematic" 24fps, which only exists because of early film reel limitations.

@professionalbigot69@poa.st @PurpCat@clubcyberia.co @Nudhul@shitposter.world speaking of interpolation, I found the article I think https://kinematicsoup.com/news/2016/8/9/rrypp5tkubynjwxhxjzd42s3o034o8 It's complicated but basically a lot of games run physics and motion at a rate that is different from your monitor. There are very good reasons for this (when was the last time you fell through the floor in a game?), but one of the issues is that it can make objects appear jittery unless you have very high fps. The fix for this is called temporal antialias (not the one everyone is complaining about recently) but almost nobody does this because it's a shit load of work.

The issue is universal to all engines, and is directly derived from what timesteps your engine uses. There is no single solution that works for every situation, b

@RustyCrab@clubcyberia.co @professionalbigot69@poa.st @Nudhul@shitposter.world halo PC is hilarious because it never did this. The engine is running at 30fps but the movement of the world is 60, so animations feel as if they have a slow framerate.

@PurpCat@clubcyberia.co @RustyCrab@clubcyberia.co @professionalbigot69@poa.st @Nudhul@shitposter.world speaking of which i managed to get a hold of the original pc port of halo 2 and the game is very slow on high fps, this is above 600 fps according to the steam overlay
