Christians and Muslims have quite a few things in common, yet I don't expect the typical example of neither to change from one to the other at the drop of a hat.

The core meaning appears to be that left and right extremists share some traits. This can be the case even if they hate each others guts, due to ideological differences they care very much about but which don't seem as fundamental from an outside view. I'm not 100% on board with horseshoe theory but one should use the right arguments against it.

The reason I brought up horse shoe is because the same people who are vocal about loli being a bannable offense have the same set logic as people who think being a tranny shouldn’t be a bannable offense.
