cassidyclown - https://kiwifarms.cc/users/cassidyclown I know the following problem doesn't touch white people but! Windows still can't use programm files normally if they are located in folder which is called in Cyrrilics. This shit comes from no one wants to allocate more than 1 byte/symbol despite UTF-8 and Unicode exists for more than 20 years."C:\Users\User\Desktop\ПАПКА ДЛЯ ВСЕГО\I2P router console.lnk"Here's it. Now some programm (most of all games or some professional apps) with 90% chance won't start this file

Microsoft Edge is the browser for me.
It removes all the Google spyware, is stable, comes built into Windows and has excellent anti-tracking and quality of life features. You can also get discounts for your favourite e-shops directly in your browser without harmful third-party addons. You can even use your favourite extensions from the Microsoft store and other Chromium stores!
I recommend downloading Microsoft Edge right now if you haven’t already: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge

this isn't 2005 anymore. all of this stuff just works on linux. after a little tinkering for more aggressive power management i was actually able to get an extra 30-40 minutes of run time out of my laptop

@AngryHortlerNoises@poa.st @PraiseTheFiddle@poa.st @borrof@aspirant.de @cassidyclown@kiwifarms.cc I've heard that same statement provided unironically since 2007 yet every time I decide to give Linux another shot I'm slapped down by bad networking and graphics drivers.

@cassidyclown@kiwifarms.cc @borrof@aspirant.de Basically had this happen to me a week ago. Had been dual booting for years, finally decided there was no reason to keep this backdoor on my system. Never been better. Steam proton works well for any game that matters that doesn't already have a linux port.

>I decide to give Linux another shot I'm slapped down by bad networking and graphics drivers.
My networking and graphics didn't work on the ``4.19 kernel`` provided by default on debian, but doing an ``apt install linux-image-5.10.0-0.bpo.3-686-pae`` fixed both. The only problem has been that I couldn't get League of Legends to install on wine or playonlinux, but in retrospect that's probably been a good thing.
The redline for me was typing "cmd" in the start menu and getting an internet explorer google search pop up for cmd instead of a command prompt. I HATE shit that uses the internet without telling me.
Look, you really wanna know the secret, it's this: You always need a 2nd computer to look up solutions to problems when installing a 1st computer, so get yourself a cheap $270 laptop off newegg [with 8G of RAM, skimp on everything else but NEVER on RAM, learned that the hard way] and put Debian or Arch on it [I use the arch wiki to debug debian, cuz the arch wiki is excellent and universal]. You'll need Windows to get the 2nd computer set up and learn stupid tricks like turning off secure boot in the bios, but after that's done you'll soon forget all about it.

Good advice here. Have a "user-friendly" second device as your training wheels while you work out the rough spots- tbh I've found that looking shit up on your phone is usually good enough for this. I put debian on my desktop and almost everything except the graphics driver worked out of the box- latter was an easy fix after looking it up.
In that same aforementioned fit of rage, I also installed arch on my macbook (2012 model, so slow with apple bloat it was practically unusable and I hated every second I had to use it at uni) Had a few more initial problems with getting the wifi driver installed and some "learning curve" stuff (more than a few imayberetarded moments), but now it's a pleasure to use and is far, far quicker than it was before. I actually have been using my macbook more than my desktop because of how nicely customised I've got everything- (fucking about with conf files and bashrc is deceptively fun btw)
But yeah- I found the more user-friendly "training wheels" debian on the desktop and arch on the laptop quite a useful way to learn linux as a whole.
I had used linux in various dual boot and virtual machine setups before so I wasn't completely "new" to it but this is one of those cases where it's better to jump in the deep end. I wish I had set it up as my main os years ago.

if you don't want to configure those things yourself you should be using a hand holding distro with a relatively new kernel like ubuntu. if your hardware is so obscure that it won't work on ubuntu i doubt it has top notch support on windows either.
