Good mofu morning fedi, woke up to find out apparently mangadex got gutted while I was asleep, guess life was going too well.

TBH though I'm less worried about finding the manga that got fucked and more irritated that I'm gonna have to sort through my library to find what was affected and what wasn't. I've also majorly slowed down on reading manga anyways precisely because of nigger shit like this, so

@Giganova8@varishangout.net torrents always win

@Giganova8@varishangout.net Senko is still safe on animebookdex
But yeah a good portion of my library is gone, though most of it haven't been updated in years

@PurpCat@clubcyberia.co @Giganova8@varishangout.net The problem is that for some series, MangaDex was the only source for those torrents.

@PurpCat@clubcyberia.co Most torrents are just Mangadex or "official" rips these days, and like half of those are either missing or wildly out of date, torrents have been dogshit for years now.

@blueknightfrank@varishangout.net @Ronnie21093@varishangout.net @PurpCat@clubcyberia.co I'm not super freaked out TBH, I was around when Mangatraders went down and everybody acted like that was gonna be the apocalypse for western manga reading. Yeah it sucked for a while, but eventually things stabilized and got better. If anything this might be a good thing, a reminder to everyone not to rely on one flaky website obsessed with being "official and professional". In fact, this situation is actually a good bit better than it might have been otherwise, since only stuff from big-name publishers got hit, rather than the site just disappearing wholesale and taking absolutely everything with it. I'd be much more worried about all the little obscure works getting lost than stuff coming from Kadokawa or whoever else was involved in this clownshow.

@Giganova8@varishangout.net @Ronnie21093@varishangout.net @blueknightfrank@varishangout.net people should learn to use torrents they'll outlast any site being shutdown imo

@PurpCat@clubcyberia.co @Giganova8@varishangout.net @blueknightfrank@varishangout.net Tell that to the groups, not the users. The users can't really use torrents if the source doesn't create them

@PurpCat@clubcyberia.co @Ronnie21093@varishangout.net @blueknightfrank@varishangout.net They should, but they inevitably won't because it's not braindead simple and easy to do, and is therefore inevitably abandoned when something more convenient comes along. Pretty sure the only reason vidya still uses torrents as much as it does is that you can't really stream games the way you can everything else.

@Giganova8@varishangout.net @Ronnie21093@varishangout.net @blueknightfrank@varishangout.net it still exists for anime (as sources for WatchAnimeOnline.su)

@Ronnie21093@varishangout.net @PurpCat@clubcyberia.co @blueknightfrank@varishangout.net I wonder why we haven't seen a site that just automatically packages uploads to torrents yet. I know torrents can be weird about getting updates, and having different versions floating around, but you'd think it wouldn't be that hard to just periodically make a torrent for each series being uploaded. Or just make a mass torrent that has everything in it and let people pick and choose in their client.

@PurpCat@clubcyberia.co @Ronnie21093@varishangout.net @blueknightfrank@varishangout.net Oh I know they still exist, I just mean that they aren't nearly as prevalent as the more "convenient" streaming options for basically everything except games. Unfortunately, I have zero idea as to how to get people to start paying attention to torrents and other decentralized things again now that streaming brainrot has completely taken over. Genuinely disheartening to see how many people respond to shit like this takedown with "oh well, guess I'll just go buy it then!" like they're not gonna be mistreated by the official channels too.

@Giganova8@varishangout.net @PurpCat@clubcyberia.co @Ronnie21093@varishangout.net @blueknightfrank@varishangout.net idk man 90% of the stuff I wanted to read was incomplete on mangadex 9/10 times most of the other aggregators had more complete sets anyway and even then sometimes they wernt complete every single time torrents have been 100% complete and have never failed me

@theorytoe@ak.kyaruc.moe @PurpCat@clubcyberia.co @Ronnie21093@varishangout.net @blueknightfrank@varishangout.net Yeah, but how often does a series exist that doesn't have a torrent at all? Plenty of stuff in my library has no results on any torrent site at all, not even an incomplete torrent.
Also a shitload of torrents are just lazy rips of the official trannylation, which has its own set of problems.
