The context of that BadFediPost with Okiwason is that ZUN has been going hard on copyright against Touhou doujin stuff that uses his creations. It's been pissing Touhou fans off.

Alcohol makes people do stupid things, but I think he's trying to keep control over his own works due to Touhou becoming world-famous.

I have been doing okay. Thanks for asking!

@SuperSnekFriend@poa.st Wait, has he actually? The creative works guidelines still haven't changed and ZUN has always been pretty hardline on following the rules he made. Last time I actually saw anyone get struck by ZUN for a fan creation was attempting to politicize the work which is one of the rules listed.

There was a bunch of music deleted on Youtube a month ago. If his rules didn't change, then he must have seen or heard something that made him mad. That, or his lawyers got too enforcement happy.

@Iffine@varishangout.net @SuperSnekFriend@poa.st i think zun's starting to dislike how people are abusing or finding loopholes in his leniency
i think lost word might've been one of those things that's massively profiting from touhou, not sure, but i do know that there was one case where zun tried to take something down but it didn't work because "technically wasn't a game (because it's gacha)" and got away with it
not sure if he's really starting to crack down on everything as much as people are claiming though

@SuperSnekFriend@poa.st I see it now. Technically what he's doing right now was in the rules stated, though it's probably more his lawyers. Seems like only uploads of official content from mainline games are getting hit. Quite a bit of it also seems to be coming from Youtube's auto-strike system since all the music from the games was seemingly uploaded officially at some point.
Still ass and ZUN really ought to be informed of this. I doubt he's the kind of person who really cares about a youtube animation using his music for a joke. He certainly doesn't seem the type to go out of his way to find some guy who does MMD animations with the music to attack either.

@ninja8tyu@varishangout.net @SuperSnekFriend@poa.st Lost Word was made when he had to give manual approval for mobile games and they weren't included in the guidelines yet. That is to say, while it's more than likely he doesn't like it, it's also kinda directly his fault it exists. He's shown up in livestreams for the game too, so it's not like he despises it completely.
He's also to a quite funny extent actually unaware of the fanbase at large. This is something that people became acutely aware of with 17.5, where ZUN only brought Flan back out of happenstance events making him think about her again. She's easily one of the most popular characters of the entire franchise and he didn't really give much thought to it. To my understanding the only times he's really informed about what the fans are doing is whenever he shows up in an event such as a livestream, convention, or radio show.

@ninja8tyu@varishangout.net @Iffine@varishangout.net @SuperSnekFriend@poa.st My cynical side is saying he desperately wants to squeeze more money out of his touhou cow now that IP's like Blue Archive took over in popularity on Comiket.
Not a great idea imo. Touhou practically became public domain. Trying to enforce copyright now is just gonna make people hate his ass.

@Tamamo@varishangout.net @ninja8tyu@varishangout.net @SuperSnekFriend@poa.st The main reason I want to say it's not ZUN doing this and I am not being cynical over it is because this isn't affecting anyone who makes money off Touhou as a doujin creator. No doujin tracks have been struck, and no doujin works are being targeted either. The listings for any given steam game are still there. It's only music directly from the game in videos that have been taken down.
Current thoughts are likely that whoever the lawyer is has become a paranoid schizophrenic after someone tried to abuse ZUN's goodwill to claim Yukkuri as his own product. Really that's the most likely explanation as ZUN doesn't take part in online discussion pretty much at all.

@Tamamo@varishangout.net @SuperSnekFriend@poa.st @ninja8tyu@varishangout.net Also it's important to note ZUN is unlikely to care about popularity. I don't think he'd ever be worried about Blue Archive at Comiket when his series has enough doujin creators and fans to host his own Comiket twice a year, in the exact same massive building as Comiket is (and a decent chunk of creators still show up to Comiket with Touhou goods despite this massive scale for just Touhou).

@Iffine@varishangout.net @SuperSnekFriend@poa.st @Tamamo@varishangout.net honestly, i did also think that zun's lawyer was kinda acting on his own
it's not like i've seen zun be on twitter or some jp social network for news and stuff and talking with the greater public
honestly, i'm... not sure what he does day-to-day aside from drink beer and make music.

One possibility (remote as it may be) is that ZUN may be planning to make an official upload of the osts to youtube, and so the lawyer went in asking youtube for removals while ZUN prepares the tracks for youtube.

@ninja8tyu@varishangout.net @SuperSnekFriend@poa.st @Tamamo@varishangout.net The man has a family. He has a wife, pretty sure he has children. He's got hobbies. He plays other games. Pretty sure he watches anime since he made an offhand comment once about Kemono Friends. There's always the joke of this man being a drunkard who wakes up and makes a game, then passes out for a year, but he's got a full life. It's likely that he doesn't find using the net constantly a good use of his time.
He could even stop making Touhou at any time, the franchise has already made the money for him to happily retire. He's still doing it because he finds some amusement in it.

@EdBoatConnoisseur@poa.st @SuperSnekFriend@poa.st Sadly can't be this optimistic. Animations that had the have music in them were hit too. Lawyer needs to be dealt with, he clearly doesn't understand what he's doing. He's apparently done this in the past too over some small artwork and gathered enough hate in the Chinese community to be called a eunuch.

It could very well be that most of the more overzealous removals are just Youtube doing what it does best with ContentID and other assorted soulless bot-moderation tools. Could be the lawyer submitted the OST, expecting that just straight rips would be taken down, and instead YT is going nuclear because their system is calibrated for Viacom/Warner-style "YOU HUMMED 0.03 SECONDS OF ONE OF OUR INTELLECTUAL PROPERTIES YOU OWE US 5 TRILLION DOLLARS IN DAMAGES YOU VILE CRIMINAL
".
Alternatively, the lawyer might just be a cunt who's engaging in the usual Japanese pastime of massively abusing copyright law.
