@poopernova@varishangout.net I realized this pretty early on. I hated school and when I had to do a book report I just wrote the bare minimum. They started to think I was retarded, but I took a test and in 3rd grade I had a 6th grade reading level. It wasn't until 4th grade that I settled in and actually tried to raise my grade because I was given money for each A I got, and that was my only way to buy new video games

You quite quickly begin to realize that public schooling is geared towards the lowest common denominator and that they hand out busywork in lieu of any sort of real tutoring. And the ever-present female shame based "authority" meant to keep us in line is a spirit crusher.

Yeah I love teaching, actual teaching, not just instructing. My younger brother was born a while after me and I had a great time helping teach him. I would never want to be a teacher though, you can not actually teach in any meaningful way with the individuals. Tutoring is closer, and I tried that but it didn't really work out either. Modern education systems are not set up in order to help people learn, but to put them in their place. And it ends up doing that very poorly at this point.

I went to a lot of competitions. When it was on a weekend I didn't have to go to school on Friday. I could negotiate because school needs trophies I need days off. Competition days were: >get up later >go to meeting point >talk to friends on train/bus >competition (1-2 hour) >talk to friends on train/bus >go home Other days were: >get up early >go to school >pain (6-8 hours) >go home ~10% of my school days were competition days This made primary school bearable

@reimu@mk.fumo.pictures @poopernova@varishangout.net that's like the opposite of the american system here there's absolutely no advantage to letting the school find out you have more brain cells than an orange cat, unless your favorite thing of all time is doing extra school work in elementary school there was a separate advanced class you got out of regular class for, but then you had to go make up all the work you missed from the regular class, so the only thing you won was extra homework. for the subset of smart kids who tried at school, group projects were the worst. before they could even begin to form a group with their friends and the other smart kids so they could do a good job on the project, the teacher would swoop in and assign them to a group with the retards and the slackers so they'd have to carry them. this was good for me, cause someone would do all the work for me while i sat there yapping and screwing off and didn't even attempt any of the outside of class parts of the assignment, but it was no fun for them. ain't no way you'd ever get out of school on a friday if they were doing a competition on saturday, they'd just expect you to give up a day off for nothing in return.
