I fed my kitty things like some salmon and chicken from my dinners this last week, and now she’s all over me whenever I try to eat ANYTHING 😭

That is because pets crave real food with real nutrients, pet fool just slowly kills them through malnutrition.

@diff@dill.burggit.moe but I give her good salmon and turkey wet food! 😭 human foood is too rich and junky unless we cook it very plainly. No seasonings or cooking oils.

@RehnSturm256@shota.house sharing a little bit of butter, and meat with the kitty ever day, probably goes a lot farther than you'd think.
I've got a very old golden-lab, and she becomes unable to walk on even good wet pet food. But, feeding her meat has stretched out her life, and mobility by years.

@RehnSturm256@shota.house Our kitty will just take things right out of my wife's hands when she's eating them and just eat it up. He's such a brat!
It's like if you give a mouse a cookie! "If you give a mouse a cookie, they'll ask for a glass of milk." but it's "If you give a kitty anything, they will never leave you alone." xD

@RehnSturm256@shota.house Does kitty bring you mice and birds? Maybe she's demanding you return the favor.

@hazlin@amala.schwartzwelt.xyz @RehnSturm256@shota.house they need the proper proteins. Real food is the answer to so many problems.

@RehnSturm256@shota.house @diff@dill.burggit.moe Yep, people food is a sometimes food for kitties, it's like a little treat they can have a small taste of sometimes.
But the kitties have no self-control or understanding of self-control and enjoying things occasionally!
We're similar we give our kitty Tikicat cat food, we used to give him dry and wet, but he stopped liking the wet food as much, so now he's just getting dry food. But he drinks a ton of water.

Strangely enough, I don't think it is a matter of protein at all. Animal products, are packed with Nutrients.

replyReply to @[email protected]
@hazlin@amala.schwartzwelt.xyz that does give me an idea. The meals I shared with her were those I wasn’t going to finish anyway. I think I could easily give her a piece of the home cooked meals and still be satisfied myself
I just worry that all the human processed or seasonings are bad for cats. But if they are just normally cooked, it should be fine eh?

replyReply to @[email protected]
@hazlin@amala.schwartzwelt.xyz @RehnSturm256@shota.house on paper.
Personally I think the protein and vitamins in process foods are damaged by the process. There's something fundamentally different about eating it properly.

@echo@stereophonic.space no but she definitely seems like the kind that would bring be birds! The other day she stole a piece of chicken off the plate like it was prey and was going to run under the bed with it!

@RehnSturm256@shota.house @hazlin@amala.schwartzwelt.xyz Yeah, if you just cook it without adding spices or seasonings to it, it should be fine. I know of a few people who cook all their pets meals.

replyReply to @[email protected]
@disabled@shota.house @diff@dill.burggit.moe I’m gonna try and feed her my unseasoned chicken next time I make some. That should be healthy.
Right now she’s trying to steal a McDonald’s nugget which I think is a liiiitle too processed to be good for her

At this point, the dogs are getting a lot of left overs. But, as you say, only the ones without seasoning or herbs.
Olive oil also seems to disagree with them.
It has taken some trial and error.
We cook a lot of whole meat stuff, like chicken or burgers, often there are left overs to recycle for the dogs, that we used to just through out.
They also sometimes get egg or sardines (the ones packed in spring water.)
In any case, like I said, a touch of butter, a bit of scrap meat, should go a long ways.

@RehnSturm256@shota.house @hazlin@amala.schwartzwelt.xyz wouldn't hurt, if you're up for spoiling the critter, to snag proper food treats for her.
Market bought frozen shrimps. That kind of stuff.

@brokeassredneck@poa.st @hazlin@amala.schwartzwelt.xyz @SpurgAnon@varishangout.net buying a month supply of good meat right now is uh, a little challenging with prices the way they are 😬 but I always have excess when I cook so if I plan ahead I could give her some.
Kitty and me can have dinner together!
heh

@brokeassredneck@poa.st @hazlin@amala.schwartzwelt.xyz @RehnSturm256@shota.house got a local rancher in the area who sells locally, gonna fill my deep freezer this next time. It's an absolute must to get proper rural stuff.
I get my own chicken eggs, far superior to anything I've ever had from a store. Yolks are dark orange rather than the absolutely pathetic pale yellah

replyReply to @[email protected]
@wan@poa.st I uh eat in my room, lol
but I put the strips of chicken and salmon on a little plate or napkin when I fed her, if that’s what you mean
when she finished noshing, I gave her more strips until she was satisfied

@RehnSturm256@shota.house @diff@dill.burggit.moe Lol, what a stinker! Yeah that's not something I'd advise giving a kitty. Though it doesn't surprise me they're trying to get some. My kitty has stolen french fries from my wife and gobbled them before we could stop him. Definitely not something we'd give him willingly, and he knows it. Which is why he works quickly and sneakily. We always have to keep a close eye on him.

If you can, don't buy anything pre-ground-up. I've found that universally, that you just get the parts of the cow no one wants to buy, it tastes bad, and probably has things that are bad to eat.
That was my experience with beef, turkey, buffalo, and lamb. Big corp, or local, the result seems to be the same.
You only know what you are actually eating, if you get the intact chunk of meal. It seems to be, that you can cook most things like a roast, and then eat them over several meals. Or, if the piece is extra tough, and you want to cook it in a pan, brining is very simple.

Just as long as you only feed parts of your food to a cat after they're left over, and in a different place and time from when you're eating or the cat will think she's welcome to scrounge.

baby steps 💯, introducing something occasionally into what they are already eating is the way to go, because, it is very easy to give them something that disagrees with them.
