>Because some of the video-taped perpetrators appear to have been Black, some observers immediately reduced anti-Asian violence to Black-Asian conflict. This is not the first time that the trope has been weaponized. Black-Asian conflict—and Black-Korean conflict more specifically—became the popular frame of the LA riots in 1992. It was a "popular frame" because it was true. > For Korean immigrant business owners who had little understanding of the brutal history of US race relations, education and experience in Black neighborhoods ushered in a new manner of empathy. their "lack of understanding of the brutal history of US race relations" is why they couldn't be made to feel guilty for buying guns and defending themselves. the more time that passes, the easier it is to rewrite history. I was there, I met Koreans and they told me what happened to them.

@Moon@shitposter.club I mean the rooftop koreans did that shit because the cops basically told them to fuck off when they asked for help. kind of like how FDR stiffed jesse owens but hitler gave him a warm welcome.

@ew@social.ancreport.com there were not enough police for a city-wide riot, I can't blame them for that. one of the laugh/cry moments of the LA Riots was liberals being told by cops they couldn't be protected, then trying to buy a gun and being told there was a waiting period.

@Moon@shitposter.club @ew@social.ancreport.com I learned about African-American history in the US... could be interesting to learn about other minorities though. It didn't cover the 1990's either. I wonder if it was more African-Americans in the ghettos getting angry about their situation and basically rioting.
