I told him to assume that all coins were pennies. He figures it out fast and even wrote to assume all were pennies. Nice.

She went with number of coins for both Ms Jones and Scott, but then changes to the value of the total. A better question (again, for a 2nd grader) would be “Ms Jones put in some coins. Scott put in 23 cents. The total is now 70. Write the number sentence and solve to find out the value of the coins Ms Jones put in.”

@tfmonkey@paypig.org - https://paypig.org/@[email protected] that’s the problem I am having. There could be 70 pennies in the cup. There are no boundaries so the make up of the coins is tremendous for a 2nd grade math question.

Am I getting old and dumb (yes), or is this a stupid question from a 2nd grade math teacher?
