Most of us live in some form of liberal democracy that ostensibly protects art as a form of expression, typically, and for convenience, we internalize this concept as a personal moral value without much thought. Art to us is a revered concept. As such we unconsciously see our rejection of artwork as a moral failing, but can't quite shake the primal urge that some things are inherently disgusting, obscene, or otherwise just shouldn't be shown to the general populace along side nice paintings of the hillside. So how do we solve this internal conflict? Apparently the solution for most is to autistically categorize things into 'not art' and 'art' on a case-by-case basis with vague criteria; all to avoid the perceived moral failing of rejecting art we find distasteful. It's painfully backwards and annoying because it's simpler to just say 'this is degenerate get it out of my face.'
