I watched a really good video about art, about the red, blue and yellow painting that was destroyed and how art is subjective, and how vilifying it is bad. I think that bit of the video is fantastic, however he then lets his politics become apparent, his talk about depression quest was mostly fine, people hated on it because it was an art game, its the same for walking simulators also, I find many of them engaging, and I enjoy them, but many people hate them with a burning passion, and depression quest is a game I've never played but is a game that I imagine has very just reasons to be loved, and it hated by people who just feel differently. I by default am biast against the game, because of who it is made by, however I am aware of that biast, and I try my best to negate that, and am happy to say that. This video however started talking about how people where angry about how people wanted art with more diversity, such as black characters more women, etc, and attacking videogames(as art) because of those traits. I do believe that a minority do attack games for having different main characters, however I believe the majority of chriticism, isn't about new arts from the view point of new and diverse, or just different backgrounds, but rather those that are creating art work in the forum of video games, are being attacked, and cannot make the art they want because they're pushed to bend the knee and pushed to make these characters or changes. I think his opinion is "Censorship is bad, so raging against people making new and diverse medias, is you censoring people and there creative wants" where as my opinion is "Censorship is bad, so if you're forcing people to make your art conform to certain peoples wish's, then we should fight against those that are trying to force the creative people to bend the knee" People in the movement are probably on both ends or somewhere in between, but there is definitely people who want to remove women main characters, but that's not the side I see from most of these debates, and to frame an argument as "These people are copying facists because they're trying to force video games what they used to", when the argument that I see is "We need to fight against people who are trying remove creative peoples abilities to create there own story's with there own characters."
