@mono@shitposter.club Moon @crunklord420@kiwifarms.cc @sjw@neckbeard.xyz subvert triodug No matter how it's sliced up fediverse is still a website built around user content. If people don't value fediverse it doesn't matter how many nodes of people not posting you have.
triodug Moon @crunklord420@kiwifarms.cc @mono@shitposter.club @sjw@neckbeard.xyz subvert It's not a dumb hypothetical. Every website loses users over time, either death or lack of interest shrinks the userbase. If you don't attract new blood your website drops to 1 post a month or less. Have you never browsed alternative image boards? They're a ghost town.
triodug @mono@shitposter.club Moon @crunklord420@kiwifarms.cc @sjw@neckbeard.xyz subvert How long would you stay if you were the only person posting?
subvert Moon @crunklord420@kiwifarms.cc @sjw@neckbeard.xyz Someone interested in alternative websites would discover 4chan early. It's not much to brag about. Saying I was there was to dispute your ideal that I idolize some past period because it's the origin point which isn't true. I consider it better because the values of the website changed so much after chanology and Trump to the point of being unrecognizable. Early 4chan had a rule about being anonymous. You aren't your online identity, your post is stand alone and exists on it's own merit alone. There's no account to check, no history to refer to, only the text matters. How many posts on the fediverse stand up to that? Applying this rule to a the internet at large which websites are worth reading and which aren't? Which have potential to become like that and which are going to be children arguing politics they got from memes? P.s. your screeencap is from 2016 when VPNs were banned on 4chan. It's a complete larp about bullshit. It's the exact type of user who don't have the ability to build anything over shit up the place and claim they helped build it as it collapses. They aren't some mysterious people in the no wheres of the internet like they pretend they are. They're the carrion scavengers picking a corpse clean after it died of exhaustion.
subvert Moon @crunklord420@kiwifarms.cc @sjw@neckbeard.xyz Wall of text not worth reading because it's all one big larp. Trump was 4chan /pol/'s president and we all know how that turned out. Talking big on the internet to other weirdos makes no difference in the real world.
subvert Moon @crunklord420@kiwifarms.cc @sjw@neckbeard.xyz I was part of the first era.. You sound like a locust. Why build anything when you can just go else where and consume what someone else built until that runs out and you move else where to consume the cycle? Maybe your identity is a bit too tied up in being muh alternative platform type.
subvert Moon @crunklord420@kiwifarms.cc @sjw@neckbeard.xyz Which comes first, the chicken or the egg? I mostly browse Known network and Public network. I follow people who post content I enjoy which is almost no one. I can't find people posting the sort of things I enjoy because there's so much noise from the weebs and political sperg outs. I like open platforms, I think the concept is good and lean heavily towards them or I wouldn't be here. I'm more of an advocate for improving those platforms content than I am for returning to walled gardens with piss poor moderation. A good example of my point is 4chan. People didn't go to 4chan just to say nigger originally. It was a great news source for niche interests, it had some of the funniest stories and memes around. It spread out as being a cool place to go with lots of fun stuff to see. Today it's a shadow of it's former self where the majority of people are there because on (most) boards you can say nigger. If you browse alt tech places you see how badly 4chan is seen these days because the meat of the content ended up on the big 3 platforms. Decentalized platforms need to be more than a telephone you pick up and have someone scream nigger, kike, faggot at you for ten minutes before you can call the pizza shop to order your lunch.
subvert Moon @crunklord420@kiwifarms.cc @sjw@neckbeard.xyz It's great when you want to fuck around and you're young enough to grind through the bullshit with nothing better to do. When you're older you don't want to scroll through essentially the same 3 posts infinitely. I like anime, Fuck niggers and you're a bigot. The small amount of tech nerds discussing alternatives is most of the quality content here and it's out numbered pretty badly. I can open telegram right now and browse 10 different channels all with interesting content to me or I can open shitposter.club and see those same 3 posts over and over. Which do you thinks going to grow the platform? I've said it before and it's still true, building a platform on being able to say nigger isn't enough. Saying nigger has no value on it's own. If you have nothing to draw people and build a community free speech is worthless. You can talk for an entire month without taking a break and if none of it is worth listening to it's a waste of time. Most people don't like facebook or reddit but it's the only place with the content they want so they tolerate it. If you want more people here you need to give them a reason to be here outside of saying nigger.
subvert Moon @crunklord420@kiwifarms.cc @sjw@neckbeard.xyz Dumb people addicted to dings getting messed with is their own fault. I wouldn't mind it having better sub groups within the fediverse. Splitting off spinster from the edgy nazi ones would clear up the timeline greatly. You can't build a stable platform on teenagers and cat ladies bitching about politics they have no influence over. Having the cooking nodes, the gardening nodes and then being able to manually add or remove them from my pool would be much better. Similar to Reddit where you sign up and (now) you aren't following anything so you pick the subreddits you want to follow. Instead of subreddits you join node clusters on the topics you want.
subvert Moon @crunklord420@kiwifarms.cc @sjw@neckbeard.xyz That's easy to self manage. Very few people are using the DM system so you just ignore it.
subvert @sjw@neckbeard.xyz Moon @crunklord420@kiwifarms.cc Spam won't be a major problem since you can filter hosts so easily. The bigger problem is flooding the network with CP. If literally every host is reported to the feds there's a big issue with sustainability. It's one of the many reasons it's a bad idea to host a site on a spare raspberry pi. You need to hide who you are when bad actors turn up and sabotage you.
