I would guess that the term was still in use and modern during the 1950s but was surpassed by "Cunt" Cunny, because of American word usage conventions has since become a diminutive of Cunt, or a less vulgar and more cute way to reference a vagina. But I first learned about it in the 90s when the women I'd talk to on yahoo user created chats would talk about their cunnys, so it was at least American localized when they were growing up.
