Back when he initially coined the term, which was about 2 years ago, the two movies were a tragedy and a comedy, both shared similar characters, and themes and were similar enough to where there could at least be some marginal level of cohesion. Now the two movies are both ultra-violent action movies that depict the other side as vile demons in need of either total subjugation or destruction. Kyle Rittenhouse made this especially clear to me, he was a clear cut case of self defense and if he had happened 10 years ago that would be the general consensus of the majority of the population, now the polarization and hatred is so bad that something as obvious as that is considered a "debate". It's nuts and there are hundreds of other examples of this, this is entirely unsustainable and we are headed for one hell of a cliff.

And that's a credible claim. But without going into details I have yet to read up on since the whole thing is depressing, that could also happen with a US civil war 2.0, although there are major wildcards, like who has which nuclear devices, codes to make them work, and the big unknown of do any of them actually work anymore? The part of Germany my family traces itself back to was so thoroughly razed our ancestral village of ~5,000 was completely depopulated and remained unsettled again for over 20 years afterwards according to church records. Basically everyone fled first to the Alps and then many to America after a few generations of tough living, displaced and landless.
