I love how some linux users prefer GOG over Steam because of muh drm free while Valve puts effort in getting Proton to run better and better with each update. Not to mention that they contribute a lot to the RADV driver.

@MischievousTomato@neckbeard.xyz Linux Trannies are real bro
@captain_arepa@posting.lolicon.rocks no fucking idea what it means, but they sell drm free games. I love them because piracy is easy as fuck

@MischievousTomato@neckbeard.xyz GOG burned any goodwill they ever had with me years ago so I'm fanatical about steam and itch now

@allison@blob.cat "burned any goodwill"? Hmm? I didn't know

@allison@blob.cat @MischievousTomato@neckbeard.xyz from what I've seen most Linux gamers don't really like GOG that much. Me, I'm disappointed that they still haven't ported Galaxy to Linux, so that alone has made me doubt their commitment to Linux.

@MischievousTomato@neckbeard.xyz Refused to allow Mushihimesama and other games localized by Degica to be released on their platform because they were "too Japanese", like fuck off tbh

@allison@blob.cat @MischievousTomato@neckbeard.xyz Steam has only made their Linux client better (especially with Proton) and itch.io binaries are self-contained vs. having 3 or 4 files to download in order to install a game.

@allison@blob.cat @MischievousTomato@neckbeard.xyz Every game I'd care to buy from them is easily piratable and runs on Linux with little fuss, so I don't understand the point. I think they dropped their commitment to being DRM-free years ago anyway.

@tengumatingpress@poa.st @MischievousTomato@neckbeard.xyz Yeah, at least for multiplayer. Most of the stuff that comes out on their storefront is still DRM free that being said

@allison@blob.cat that sucks… I'll still privilege gog over steam just for the DRM free aspect

@allison@blob.cat but my steam library is way bigger nonetheless, just centralizing game distribution on pc isn't a great idea

@MischievousTomato@neckbeard.xyz Proton is just wine with patches spiced with winetricks. Any half-decent Linux distro offers the same, while allowing you to do more. For example, if SquarePenis shits out yet another unoptimised piece of gaming experience, you can turn strict draw ordering on just for this game (put it into an alias or something), while letting other games run without it (and faster, because strict draw ordering places a heavy impact on fps). With Steam and Proton you either have all your games use strict draw ordering enabled, or look depart on a funny quest to descend into 33 folders in order to find where the fucking Proton stores the bloody wineprefix folder and which of the 108 prefixes is the one used for this exact game.

@kiikoku@freespeechextremist.com hmmmmm, didn't know about the strict draw ordering thingy. Does disabling it break games?

Reply to @MischievousTomato@neckbeard.xyz
@MischievousTomato@neckbeard.xyz It’s vice versa: to unbreak the games, by forcing a “straighter” pipeline for the GPU or something like that. From memory, DE: HR and TR 2013 are some games that are unplayable due to glitches on the screen, unless you enable strict draw ordering.
