I am still disappointed that Galaxy Express 999 was nothing like I expected. There were too many vignettes and "tragic" morality tales to the point where the later ones were thematically the same as ones before. More than disappointed, I'm shocked because Space Battleship Yamato and Space Pirate Captain Harlock are so good compared to GE999. At least the space witch and planet-consuming Maetel memes were funny. Not worth several months of slogging through to the end.

literally every galaxy express 999 episode ever: >galaxy express 999 shows up to new planet >maetel explains to tetsuro that everyone on this planet is a donut >while checking into the hotel they witness a bunch of donut holes engaging in some act of terrorism >tetsuro gets into a screaming match with a donut hole but maetel tells him not to interfere >donut aliens crying to donut alien police that they saw tetsuro and maetel assisting the donut hole terrorists >maetel and tetsuro are thrown in jail in their underwear for some reason >donut hole in an adjacent cell tells tetsuro the tragic backstory of how the donuts have been oppressing them for millennia >donut hole aliens attack the prison to break out their comrades in arms >maetel and tetsuro escape in the chaos but not before watching their donut hole friend get shot >they run to the galaxy express 999 just as it's leaving >the conductor is having a shitfit as usual >tetsuro has some gay monologue where he pontificates about why the aliens couldn't coexist because he never fucking learns anything >donut hole planet mysteriously explodes as the camera pans to maetel wordlessly observing the blast >see you next week for the same shit all over again

@SuperSnekFriend@poa.st Have you ever considered watching this show which repeatedly states that it isn't an anime called Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ. It's got cute (not?)animegirls in it in space.

@nature@pl.nicenature.moe Isn't ZZ just a remake of Zeta?

@SuperSnekFriend@poa.st Anyways, it's not a remake, it's the sequel to Zeta Gundam, and let's just say it starts off with a very different tone compared to the ending of Zeta Gundam, also I've counted the funny Japanese man singing "Anime Janai" in the intro at least 9 times so definitely not an anime

@SuperSnekFriend@poa.st That intro has been repeating in my head for the past hour

@flux_the_cat@poa.st @SuperSnekFriend@poa.st I'm partial to the 'tetsuro falls into the lap of some local hag' plot structure myself.

The manga was better. Better than that is the spinoff "The Galaxy Railways", which is just Star Blazers with trains.
