Chat, is this true? Context: I am so poor I have never seen an Apple product in my life. Not even over the Internet.

there hasn’t been any apple exclusive content worth buying for over 30+ years

@Rasterman@detroitriotcity.com I've long thought of Apple products as overpriced garbage sold purely on brand and vibes.

its incredibly true a cable guy once told me, correctly, that iphones are for women, everything goes onto a page of apps, its all laid out for them because they're stupid and yea its always been a cope for fart sniffers who thought their little apple logo meant they were hot shit the pc master race doesn't care tho, we'll continue to be right and in charge
@Rasterman@detroitriotcity.com IIRC, the "Macs are better for creative work" came because back in the very early days PC hardware was very shitty in the graphics department. Then, I don't know if it was because of it, but what happened was that all the cool graphics editing software was released for Mac first. Photoshop, for instance, started it's life as a Mac only software. So that's why the "Macs are better for creative work" trope came to be, because it was absolutely true back in the 90's. Nowadays we obviously have PC hardware that does everything a Mac does. But still, in the software department, I'm not sure about the details, but by what I hear people saying, it seems that there are some programs that despite having both a Windows and a Mac releases, have some features that are available only on Macs, or work better on Macs, so the trope perpetuates.

@ChristiJunior@detroitriotcity.com Well, clearly owning the superior hardware was not it or else today we'd all use Commodore products, yet Microdick and IBM sold cheaper shit that became the gold standard instead. Apple must do something right with those vibes. Those commercials certainly painted PC users as dorks. Very feminine way to advertise, by the way. Appeal to shaming, ridicule and creating consensus.
@get@clubcyberia.co @Rasterman@detroitriotcity.com @Suzu@detroitriotcity.com windows doesn't work for tasks that demand live actions. For example, if I was using a laptop to control my DJ gear for a show and I used Windows it just wouldn't work. Right out the gate the computer cannot handle USB traffic fast enough to twiddle the fuckin blinkenlights on the controllers and the mac can. I mained an i7 mac laptop for years, probably 2014-2016, on a belkin dock in my office because the computer was in the living room connected to the full dive elite dangerous cockpit

@dictatordave@poa.st I hate it how the iPhone, in adapting the MacOS interface to a phone, determined how all smartphones would be. Even Android goes for the top bar, dock at the bottom and launcher with no categories whatsoever. I'm not saying people should open a file explorer and navigate to /usr/bin to open their programs, but it seems to have trained people to put all their shit into a magic bucket and never know how it works or where their stuff is.

@Rasterman@detroitriotcity.com I mean, those kinds of commercials were also how Sega managed to lose to Nintendo a lot less badly than they usually did during the Genesis generation (note that Nintendo VS Sega is a laughably one-sided "rivalry" - even once Nintendo was dethroned, the N64 still sold way more than the Saturn and the Dreamcast combined).

apple has been advertising specifically to the gay urbanite market since at least the 90's
Reply to @[email protected]
Apple has been spoken for as a brand for the gay urbanite demographic since they decided their logo was going to be the Apple that fall on isaac newtons head

Even then, Nintendo was more than willing to have sega games on their systems, as well as the whole Mario and sonic Olympic games, showing that they put the petty rivalry behind them. Apple vs windows is just boring.

@TrueMasterCole@poa.st Sega just straight up lost, that rivalry ended when the Dreamcast died, and it made no sense to continue it given how good of a fit Nintendo consoles ended up being for franchises like Sonic.

@ChristiJunior@detroitriotcity.com I'm surprised it's legal in the US to make commercials showing the competition's product and going "this thing sucks, actually". But the Genesis has Blast Processing™! Crucial for Sonic to achieve mach speeds. Nintendo could never.

can't even say Samsung is good ult anymore because they started doing the same thing. the true end goal of companies is to become so popular they don't need to try anymore and can just put out slight upgrades everyone buys.

@freddie_the_fed@poa.st @ChristiJunior@detroitriotcity.com @Rasterman@detroitriotcity.com it's worse than that, the goal is to put out absolute garbage and have people keep buying it imagine how overjoyed people would be if when windows 11 came out, it was exactly the same as windows 10 but with a few minor improvements to increase performance through hardware acceleration with newer CPU instructions and newer GPUs

@Rasterman@detroitriotcity.com @ChristiJunior@detroitriotcity.com Sega just didn’t have the first clue about marketing a home console. And they never seemed to know what their own identity was either. They were big on allowing blood and gore in Genesis games while Nintendo wouldn’t, but then they would turn around and dump a lot of their budget into Sonic titles which were geared more toward kids. They didn’t understand what their niche in the industry should be. Sega historically was a powerhouse when it came to arcade games, but they never could get it right with consoles. In hindsight they might have been better off sticking with what they were best at which was arcade games, and being a strictly third-party developer on the home market.

In best case scenario it only gets temporarily bricked by an update and can unbrick it with a 50-step tutorial

@Rasterman@detroitriotcity.com @ChristiJunior@detroitriotcity.com True, but arcades have basically been dead for the past couple decades. So at this point Sega is basically condemned to third party status forever.

@Rasterman@detroitriotcity.com Had to use Macs once in middle school for creative work. Absolute dogshit of a hardware and software. It's like lobotomized Linux with almost all the crimes of Windows. >"b-but it's intuitive!" It's as intuitive as imperial system - it only makes sense to people that are locked in that silly little walled garden, everyone outside of that box just sees it as obfuscate nonsense. The price tag and Apple's blatant anti-consumer stance is just icing on that cake.

@niobleoum@www.minds.com It's funny how all the people who replied have vastly different opinions. Some times polar opposite. If only I could get one of those computers and see by myself. Maybe if Milei continues to improve things by 2032 I'll be able to!

Back in the day the meme was "Macs can't get viruses", which I guess was a big draw for mongoloids who had a compulsion to download and open every single thing they came across with reckless abandon.
