It’s tricky, especially if you are talking about elementary school aged and younger since standards for what’s appropriate for kids is so different in Japan with them having so much more leeway for sexual content. Shonen - for boys - is nominally for kids but lewd jokes are pretty ubiquitous, shoujo - for girls - more often than not has at least one gay character who is friends with the MC. In my own experience I’ve discovered yuzu the pet vet, I recommend that one wholeheartedly for elementary aged kids. when I was a kid schools would have scholastic book fairs that had a handful of manga selections, among those that I can remember being Yotsuba, chis sweet home, and +anima. The first two are definitely kid appropriate, I never read +anima but it was deemed appropriate for little kids by American childhood development professionals in the 90’s and 00’s for whatever that’s worth. Once kids get a little older use your own judgement on things you have read or are familiar with and assess when it would be appropriate to give to your kids, eg spy family has a certain degree of violence but the sexual content is minimal and never lewd so id personally be comfortable giving it to a preteen or even a mature 8 or 9 year old.

lewd jokes are fine, i mean stories that dont one-shot kill the kids with judaism and self destruction
