PNG compression is pretty subhuman‐tier. You might find an animegirl PNG that has a very dark but not quite solid‐colored background and think that since it's compressed and it has a limited range of colors it should not take much space, but that just doesn't happen with PNG. It's too bad that JPEG-XL is not that well supported. Thank you for reading my blog post.

@mikuphile@gearlandia.haus PNG was great compared to Bitmap files, especially since it had an alpha channel. it's not really fair to compare it to something that came along decades later.

@BlinkRape@posting.lolicon.rocks Oh, I mainly intended to say that it's time to move on. There will always be some value in it being such a simple format but its compression is just insufficient these days. (I try to be mindful of the filesize when posting here. )
