Why are Pokemon cards so expensive? I was at GameStop buying a game for my kids and this big fat guy comes in apologizing profusely to the GameStop employee woman about how he had to pay some bills and that it took him longer to come in for his monthly Pokemon pack. Good for him for being responsible and putting Pokemon cards lower on his priority list though.

they're sold is weird ways like specific box sets that cost like 30-40 bucks for a few packs. they distribute some sets in strange ways like that where other games will distribute most card game product in booster packs or boxes of booster packs. theres also secondary market mark up sometimes or just scarcity where they cant get enough for everyone

I never got into Pokemon but I played a couple Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments at a comic shop in highschool. Do people actually play Pokemon, or is it just the collecting of the cards that is fun?

@madison@nicecrew.digital @Blouie@poa.st @Turdicus@poa.st It's actually a fun TCG. I'll give it credit for being something distinctly different from the other major tcgs.

its very different and long lasting for being so old and one of the first tcgs

Does TCG stand for something-card-game? I played most of the Pokemon games on Gameboy and DS, but I stopped years ago. I thought about getting one of the new ones on switch but I wasn't sure if it would be fun. I felt like they were all the same thing.

@Turdicus@poa.st @madison@nicecrew.digital @Blouie@poa.st Feel like most modern TCGs riff too hard off of Magic's format. We need another game thats off it's medicine like Yugioh

@madison@nicecrew.digital @Blouie@poa.st @Turdicus@poa.st Trading Card Game, some games are also called CCGs which means Collectable Card Game

it stands for trading card game. pokemon video games are all pretty formulaic, i stopped playing them a long time ago. they just dont do it for me anymore. if you want to play pokemon again in your spare time just play the gold and silver remakes imo, theyre fun.

honeatly, the big three are pretty distinct
though all the others are mtg clones, only in asia, or too niche to have a decent player base

flesh and blood seems pretty in line with most innovative card game engine to come out and hit. too many things are mtg derived i agree

its always funny to me how despite a lot of things being global, the asian card games are still very asian and unique to having scenes over there.

@Turdicus@poa.st @madison@nicecrew.digital @Blouie@poa.st Flesh and Blood was pretty fun to play. I got a ninja trial deck from an event at a gamestore in Korea.

a lot of japanese games had a brief presence internationally but didn't do well so they stopped translating sets. duelmasters, cardfight, etc
though one piece tcg and digimon tcg have been doing really well

It's the Trading Card Game. There's an app you can download from the play store that's based on the TCG. It's fairly memory intensive though. But you can buy with in-game currency card packs and play based on the trading card game. It's good if you like trading cards and stuff. My nephew did that for a few years in middle school. It's how I learned about it.
Pokémon Go is another one I did with some coworkers years ago before I got together with my ex. I kinda lost interest in the game. I thought about picking it back up.
The video games are an entity to itself. It's fun if you like the gaming version of it.

@ChairmanO15@nicecrew.digital @madison@nicecrew.digital @Blouie@poa.st @Turdicus@poa.st I don't like playing Digital TCGs, Grinding for cards makes me want to die because I really only want to build goofy dumb decks that are equally hard to build as good decks because the gacha gods hate everyone equally.

I played it for 2 days and had to uninstall because it nearly crashed my phone. I didn't get very far with it.
I had kind of a similar experience with Pokémon Go. I never could get the phone tracking to work right. One day I know I walked at least 10 miles at work according to my pedometer i used and the game said I only walked a half a mile. 😡

Trading Card Game. CCG = Collectible Card Game. Naming difference is negligible.
