still thinking about the trailer. i really do not think you could make a better Shadow design, this is that realistic art you'd find online and everyone would wish would be used for an official movie.

Do people unironically like this chuuni faggot? I thought he was a universally recognized laughing stock and a meme like jar jar binks?

@Ripsnort@poa.st normies all pretend to hate Sonic and especially Shadow, but now that he's doing well everyone's going to pretend they always liked him. as for fans, he's consistently been the #2 most popular character in the franchise, this was inevitable.
Shadow isn't a chuuni, he's quite literally on a John Wick-style revenge spree and everyone thought that was too edgy for those games.

I mean I have to agree trying to put a violent grizzled Clint Eastwood character in a Sonic the Hedgehog game feels like a bit of a tonal mismatch to put it mildly. I always kind of ironically liked him because he was so unintentionally funny and cringe when he's talking in monotone and cursing and shooting uzis from his oversized supervillain motorcycles.
Not to sound like a gen x boomer jr but I always found the original Sonic series to be far more charming, where the most attitude and edge you'll find is Sonic crossing his arms and raising his eyebrows. That persona worked for him, Shadow always felt like a superfluous tryhard version of that.

All that being said this is good art and aesthetics otherwise. I always appreciate when artists put thought into mise-en-scene and treat the source material with respect, but as far as the writing goes I get the feeling his portrayal is going to be laden with overly self aware irony and it's all going to end up intolerably cringe

@Ripsnort@poa.st they've already done the self-aware irony of "yeah he's edgy huh" for over a decade now and they've been deliberately shying away from that now. the 2020s has seen them unironically embrace the edge.

@Ripsnort@poa.st @bleedingphoenix@wolfgirl.bar I mean, he's kinda regarded as being overly edgy for the franchise he's from. But he's generally well regarded and honestly one of the coolest characters to be born from the franchise. I think the only other character as well received as himself since was Blaze the Cat, and even then the mainline game she appeared in is trash.
