I don't strict fast except the first and last day + presanctified liturgy days. I don't do well with it and the kids are all different ages and levels with fasting. We eat a lot of vegetarian dishes throughout lent and smaller portions when we do eat meat. The no oil thing actually pisses me off since the distinction only exists because they used animal skin jars or bladders to hold it. Last meat meal would be bacon wrapped filet medallions with a maple drizzle and southern style buttered baby carrots.

yeah the oil one is so hard...unless you prepare your own food...last year before i was baptized i ate fish and oil anyway out of ignorance...we'll see how i handle no oil though...one thing is certain...i will eat a lot of cheese on cheesefare...

I struggle with giving up cheese. I also refuse to eat any of the fake meats or cheeses. It feels jewish to do that as a substitute. I did learn that bouillon is likely okay, e.g. chicken ramen although you'd need to check with your priest. The amount of meat present in that is functionally zero
Try rice-based cheese. It sounds like some hippy soy crap but it's actually not bad if you can't have real cheese.

i do the sofritas at chipotle...beans, corn, guac, pico de gallo...double wrapped tortillas for about 40g of protein...
