@LittleTom@poa.st @Kagekokoro@bae.st Im talking more about item mechanics that normies hate than arena hunts with none of that

@teto@cawfee.club @LittleTom@poa.st and GU still has plenty of beginner quests in which you just have to collect stuff

@Kagekokoro@bae.st @LittleTom@poa.st yes but I dont want quests and tutorials. Just force the player to learn out of necessity. The "survival" aspect is gone now.

@Kagekokoro@bae.st @LittleTom@poa.st I used to do quests with no items and just collected everything on the map and combined items during the quest. (You had NO money for items most of the time). Thats where the 50 minutes timelimit comes from.

Someday maybe they could build on these ideas but I don't think it'll ever happen. Unfortunately Wilds still has infinite item resupplies at camps which is basically the complete inverse of this philosophy.

@LittleTom@poa.st @teto@cawfee.club @Kagekokoro@bae.st If you want to collect items for hours you can always just play Oldschool Runescape.

@Arkana@poa.st @Kagekokoro@bae.st @LittleTom@poa.st if you want to combo fight enemies for hours you can play bayonetta/devil may cry/granblue relink/zenless zero/final fantasy 16/etc
hey now downtime in new mh games is very minimal (and the environments are super dense and detailed now to the point where it bothers some people)

You know the downtime I miss in old MH games? Knowing exactly where a monster was going to go eat or get something to drink without stupid fucking scout flys telling ADHD players how it all works. We used to have to really pay attention to a monsters behaviour, we used to be really rewarded for it too. I miss paintballs, damn it.

well along with scoutflies we also got considerably more complex monster behavior and environmental interactions, but Rise went and said fuck it and marked all monsters on the map from the start of every quest.

I like the new games because fighting monsters is fun and running around the map looking for them is not. I don't doubt that after refining the experience some of the magic was lost though

It's fine to like that, but I do think we used to have other games for exactly what you want, like god eater. God eater does what you want. Monster hunter was literally about hunting. Or it used to be. Foraging, exploring, studying, etc.

God Eater sucks and MHW has plenty of non combat gameplay to round out the experience, I'd argue that it's significantly more robust than anything in gen 3 or 4 at the very least. MHR took a few steps away from that but it's still a million times better than kusoge like God Eater.

Listen, God eater gets you reasonably close if not sometimes right at the action, which is what people keep trying to thrust that want on monster hunter, I don't want that personally. I think they should play in separate playgrounds personally lol. I get God eater needs work on its combat compared to MH, I agree, but forcing MH to Flanderise itself to cater to all audiences I really don't think Is the right route. I've seen it happen with dark souls into elden ring already.

I do think some things about gen 5 should be rolled back - infinite consumable resupplies, the skill system (they don't HAVE to go back to activation thresholds but at the very least it needs serious tweaking), counters out the ass for weapons that don't need them...there's a lot that I don't like, especially in Rise. And I wouldn't mind if tracking got more complex and was represented by something less gaudy than scoutflies. But Monster Hunter is still the only real game in town and personally, I don't blame people for wanting a game that plays, looks and sounds as good as it does without as much running between gathering nodes and holding A for 8+ seconds at a time.
