I remember having lots of conversations about 4-5 years ago about how people shouldn't call themselves allies unless they're genuinely doing things that benefit a community they're allied with. Now it's like, obligatory to say that you're an ally of everyone and everything. My wife got dirty looks at a meeting last week for saying that she doesn't call herself an ally to black people because she doesn't really do anything that could be considered allied with black people. Maybe I just went from hanging out with queers to hanging out with libs. My circle of friends *has* changed. Or maybe this is just another way that liberal progressivism absorbs radical ideas and makes them performative decorations on the system.
