My chronic illness is cooperating. Let us see my desktop's status.
1. Ubuntu still producing minor font issues.
2. Ubuntu (Alsa problem?) still won't let my DAC receive input via S/PDIF
3. I missed the Steam, GOG, and JAST sales because of my illness and infection.
4. I need to find software to centralize my personal data, especially bookmarks. Syncthing is a godsend without involving myself with setting up SSH, which I will practice and do one day but not now
5. I eventually need to upgrade the graphics card.
6. I want to consider switching from Kubuntu because Canonical has gone absolutely insane.
Thank you for coming to my TedTalk!

While I'm a noob and don't know what your use case is, maybe consider giving linux mint a try? I know it's the noob distro, but it has worked pretty well for me so far.
Also, regarding your Alsa problem, have you tried finding a graphical tool to manage it? Or you could also take your also config to ChatGPT and describe your problem to it, doing this has helped me before.
Good luck and may your health improve.

I meant to respond to you, but I don't know why I didn't when OP was relevant. (It still is for a couple of points.)
Mint is primarily Ubuntu based, though I know we have the Ubuntu-less version as the Mint devs have known for a while that Canonical has become insane. They are still focusing on their Ubuntu-base for now. I've already set my eyes on Debian, which is the basis for Ubuntu and shouldn't be too different in config and package structure.
As for Alsa, the issue is low level, so a GUI won't necessarily help me. I need to know how to force Alsa to recognize the signal being transmitted through the S/PDIF cable, as it can recognize my DAC through USB. The USB cable is not bad and still takes audiophile quality input, but it's not ideal either. I still distrust LLM networks to use those.
It's just a matter of my body cooperating to work on switching distros and the other issues.
Thank you for the advice, nonetheless!
