Sorry, what do people expect Proton to do when they receive a legal request from law enforcement? Tell them to fuck off so that law enforcement can seize their business? Whether you think Proton is a good entity or not is one thing, but the information they gave up was literally just the IP address and recovery email address of the user (which ended up being an apple email address, to which law enforcement used to shake down apple who obviously has every little detail). To my understanding, at no point was the user's emails cracked open by proton, who maintains that they do not have such capabilities, so the contents of the email are still encrypted and private. This is clearly a case of poor opsec by the user but people just act like Proton should just tell law enforcement to go eat a dick.

@TopBep@varishangout.net correct however last time (2021 climate activist) they did say the only information they shared was ip and device type but now its also recovery email. i guess you can argue last time there just wasn't a recovery email to share but they should be more transparent what they have to share.
@TopBep@varishangout.net Didn't proton give up un-encrypted emails a couple of years ago to law enforcement? People should know by now that Proton is willing to give up info to anyone that asks.

@higashikata@varishangout.net @TopBep@varishangout.net no and they are willing to give out the information they are required to give out by law just like everyone else
