your opinions on richard nixon strongly influence my perception of you

Nixon was pretty based, but his opening of diplomatic relations with communist China ultimately resulted in the gutting of American manufacturing, so I'm kind of torn on the matter

@Hartmann@poa.st @peemasons@poa.st Was definitely a realpolitik moment to get China out of the Soviet's orbit, considering this was like right after the Sino-Soviet split. Not to mention like NOBODY in the early 1970s could've foreseen China industrializing as rapidly as they did 20+ years later.

@Hartmann@poa.st he was smart in that he recognized that china was the next big superpower but he was shortsighted in that he assumed they would be a submissive asian ally like japan.
