I threw some quick numbers together and found that to be the case, using median and disposable incomes, adjusted for inflation. The face fiat value may have gone up but the intrinsic value of said fiat has gone down.

Sony offered therefor a cheap option in the form of the PS One. PSX game were floating around brand new or as old new stock in the early 2000s and stuck around in various second hand shops until 2012 when the speculation wave also got grip of that system and emptied the market of cheap 2nd hand games.
