Reminds me of a study I lost track of, but it was a survey that asked people to estimate the political views of their opposites. Conservatives were able to accurately simulate the viewpoints of liberals, moderate or extreme, but the liberals could not. Functionally, the liberals took the inverse of their views and then pushed them to borderline extremes. They simply lacked the ability to simulate a thought process different from their own, so even a moderate liberal believed all conservatives were more extreme than they actually were.

It's incredible to me how poorly the current crop of artists understands lighting. Things are either too fucking dark or too bright or it feels like there's no lighting at play at all. You can't get decent contrast in these fucking games and the environment blurs together. The funny thing is, you install some filter mod a chronic gooner made in 15 minutes and the game looks much better.

You can blame people being incapable of understanding different degrees of lighting and also mood lighting. Kind of how you start doing shading, you like your initial results practicing strong directional shadows and you don't improve from there

Tbh, I've no problem with paint blotches or tape being a cue for the player that "this is an interactable object", unless it makes no fucking sense (it's an object nobody's supposed to have ever touched or touched in a very long time). Indeed, a game like Elden Ring, with its many well-textured, elaborate doors and objects which are non-interactable, is absolutely frustrating and should learn to better communicate which parts of the game the player should invest time in checking out.
