@SultanOfSloth@poa.st If it was Castlevania 3 that would have won but had to go with Ninja Gaiden

replyReply to @[email protected]
@jamie_birch@poa.st agreed. MM2 and CV are probably my top picks, love Contra too but like Super C a little better imo.

replyReply to @[email protected]
@FrenReport@poa.st yeah was trying not to flood poll with too many choices. CV3 is great. Have physical copies of all these games I guess bc I’m a retard.

@SultanOfSloth@poa.st @jamie_birch@poa.st Megaman 2 was pretty epic as was Contra

@SultanOfSloth@poa.st I think Battle of Olympus was my favorite NES game ever and Rygar was a contender for sure

replyReply to @[email protected]
@FrenReport@poa.st never played BoO, only played Rygar at a buddy’s house growing up.

@SultanOfSloth@poa.st yeah Super C is better imo, and Ninja Gaiden 3 is my fav of that series. its so good

@SultanOfSloth@poa.st @FrenReport@poa.st i still have physical copies of a few, lost my NG3 sadly- its like 80 bucks now for a fuggin cart

replyReply to @[email protected]
@jamie_birch@poa.st physical copy of NG3 is like $100ish rn. Pricey but not the worst.
Next game I’m looking to get is Hudson’s Jackie Chan’s Action Kung Fu. Mighty Final Fight and Bonk’s Adventure are like $500+, so roms are A-OK there for me.

@SultanOfSloth@poa.st holy shid yeah lol. Bucky o Hare is another fav of mine, probably will just get a repro cart tho cus its crazy expensive too, same as Gargoyle's Quest 2. What is Bonk?

replyReply to @[email protected]
@jamie_birch@poa.st Bonk was a Hudsonsoft mascot platformer, the ‘real’ version was the one on PC Engine/Turbo Grafx 16, but Nintendo and Hudson had a great relationship then, so NES got a very good port. Not many copies made. Was late release like most any NES game worth a chunk of change.

replyReply to @[email protected]
@jamie_birch@poa.st ...now that you got me thinking about Turbo Grafx 16, I’ve only played it once or twice, in a mall (one of those secured interactive display enclosures with attached controllers like SNES had when it was new).
Those SNES enclosures in Walmart were real nigger hours.
‘Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat in public without paying like the arcade while mom is shoplifting?’ YESSIR YOU BETCHA

@SultanOfSloth@poa.st Mega Man 2. I feel like Capcom games are the only NES games that aged really well. They're fun to play even without playing for the sake of being 'retro'.

replyReply to @[email protected]
@PowderKeg@poa.st
Any Konami or Capcom title up til early-mid 90s is worthwhile imo. I own a copy of Ducktales.
It’s funny.
I’m into Megaman and Castlevania.
My gf is into Resident Evil and Silent Hill.

@SultanOfSloth@poa.st why isn't Wizards and Warriors on this list?

replyReply to @[email protected]
@hydramacready@poa.st I was never a big fan tbh. Only rented a few times as a kid. always liked ghosts n goblins better, myself.

replyReply to @[email protected]
@SultanOfSloth@poa.st damn, never even heard of that one and I had a fat stack of those cartridges

replyReply to @[email protected]
@hydramacready@poa.st that was one instance the arcade version was way better. Early Capcom NES games like 1942 were contracted out with way bad results. Mega Man/Rock Man was first natively developed Capcom NES game.

@SultanOfSloth@poa.st I do agree with these vote totals tbh

replyReply to @[email protected]
@hydramacready@poa.st seems evenly distributed at this point. The more it gets repoasted the better.

replyReply to @[email protected]
@InuHound@poa.st truly superior to the double dragon games. Battletoads is a bit of a toss up for me vs RCR. Both dope.

replyReply to @[email protected]
@BigTony@poa.st great game. 🤜 Punch Out 🥊 was one of the few cases where NES version was a far superior experience to its arcade counterpart. Should have included tbh. I failed

replyReply to @[email protected]
there’s only 52 minutes left in this super important poll, poast!!!

replyReply to @[email protected]
@allison@blob.cat I’ve heard of gimmick before, never played. Looked up recca, vertical shmup, yeah? My fave V Shmup will always be Ikaruga.

replyReply to @[email protected]
@SultanOfSloth@poa.st Yeah vertical shmup. I'm actually not a huge fan of ikaruga, the main mechanic really turns me off. Much more into cave games and crimzon clover along with random 90s arcade jank

replyReply to @[email protected]
@allison@blob.cat I’ve always been a big fan of Galaga - yeah it’s vertical but it’s not what I’d class a “shmup” since it’s super basic.
I like Ikaruga I’m just not great at it (or most other shmups). Love me some Twin Bee tho.
replyReply to @[email protected]
@SultanOfSloth@poa.st MM2 - every level is designed really well and the soundtrack is probably best on the system

replyReply to @[email protected]
@SultanOfSloth@poa.st galaga is fixed, if you're into that style of game gaplus or space bomber might be cool
replyReply to @[email protected]
@FrenReport@poa.st @SultanOfSloth@poa.st Rygar might be the top hidden gem of the NES

replyReply to @[email protected]
@natsock@pleroma.nobodyhasthe.biz MegaMan 2 is one of my fave NES games (easily a desert island pick), but tbh MM3 *slightly* edges it out for me in some regards.

replyReply to @[email protected]
@natsock@pleroma.nobodyhasthe.biz @FrenReport@poa.st I played it as a kid at a buddy’s house and maybe rented it once. Didn’t get super into it but I’d give it a second try.
You like Karnov? That’s my shit.
replyReply to @[email protected]
@SultanOfSloth@poa.st @FrenReport@poa.st have not, its aesthetic looks kind of like Fist of the North Star!

replyReply to @[email protected]
@natsock@pleroma.nobodyhasthe.biz @FrenReport@poa.st it’s fucking weird, Russian kinda theme. Original was Konami arcade game but the NES port is good imo.

@SultanOfSloth@poa.st @natsock@pleroma.nobodyhasthe.biz @FrenReport@poa.st Huh, just learned Karnov wasn't just from Fighter's History Dynamite/Karnov's Revenge.

replyReply to @[email protected]
@SultanOfSloth@poa.st >Mega Man 2 but no Mega Man 3
Nice list faggot

replyReply to @[email protected]
@tengumatingpress@poa.st was trying to consolidate it tbh. MM2 is the Black Album, MM3 is Master of Puppets. Or something.

@natsock@pleroma.nobodyhasthe.biz @SultanOfSloth@poa.st boobeam trap though

replyReply to @[email protected]
@sinjoor43@poa.st @natsock@pleroma.nobodyhasthe.biz ...are you talking about the quickman stage or am I missing something?

sinjoor43
replyReply to @[email protected]
@SultanOfSloth@poa.st @natsock@pleroma.nobodyhasthe.biz it's the boss in the wily castle that takes all your crash bombs to kill
it's an example of poor level design imo

replyReply to @[email protected]
@sinjoor43@poa.st @natsock@pleroma.nobodyhasthe.biz agreed, that boss fight is a bitch and not fair. MM3 is tougher in some regards but doesn’t have bullshit like that.
