The mask to me is a personality test. I personally hate them, I only tolerate them because for whatever reason I try to avoid causing problems for people in real life. It's the definition of arbitrary, The virus is extremely infectious and durable but very very weak and likely not going to kill you. The lockdowns are not effective. You can't sanitize an enclosed air system like public transit or transportation, yet the public transit systems are still up and running, and NOBODY is sanitizing those busses. Walmart and other large hubs for people have no restrictions in place for social distancing yet places like pools which have chemicals in the water designed to kill disease are completely shut down. Restaurants are hubs for the virus as well, nobody wears a mask while eating and this 6 feet rule is not enough to stop transmission in a crowded building. No major social events get cancelled, everyone just ignores the lockdown restrictions because they know at least subconsciously that it's bullshit. I was 100% pro mask when the virus first popped up because that was the smart thing to do. but now the circumstances have changed, data is out, virus has been curved, it's time to lift restrictions and let people live their lives.

Observant people quickly deduce that 100% efficiency is impossible with humans and improbable with machinery which can fail as well. I saw these same people repeating the same arguments with H1N1 and Avian Flu before it, not to mention the same security theater over 9/11. Most people are NPC and can be corralled around as if they're sheep, its a damn shame that most people in this world are absolute morons incapable of basic pattern recognition.

@Salastil@pleroma.salastil.com @BellBell@shitposter.club It is, but it comes in 3 grades: dimwit, midwit, and topwit. The dimwit sees mask, thinks it must reduce transmission, wears it. The midwit knows 100% efficiency is impossible, and therefore doesn't wear it. The topwit understands that there are effectively three regimes of: - where infection is very unlikely. Mask wearing is pointless here. - where infection chances are roughly half-half. Large enough not to be negligible, but not large enough to be almost guaranteed. A mask that is ~80-90% efficient actually reduces transmission chances here. Wear a mask. - where infection is basically guaranteed by prolonged contact. Mask wearing is useless here. However this requires non-binary and probabilistic thinking, and this is absolutely above your average NPC's capabilities.
