Too complicated for the average user and no common point for which all normies can share. I mean thats why i love shit like instances and hate instance wars. Instead of coming together and allowing normies to have their public spaces while we as people can decide to have better smaller instances here with our own decisions in place. A new kind of freedom. Instead we have to be either constantly divided or have a bunch of hoops to jump through.

@ashiisbest@comp.lain.la @0@gh0st.live [email protected] @maija@shitposter.world @prettygood@socially.drinkingatmy.computer unfortunately so. And its even harder judging by the fact that most normies probably wouldn't even use the internet if their family and friends didn't use it. To get normies to not use mainstream platforms, you have to get their friends onto it. But to do that, you have to get their friends and family onto it.
I don't mind autistic sperging about instance wars, although clearly it does not help anything if we're wanting to get the normies to not be stuck on the main platforms and truly have any resemblence of freedom. I do think that if we can get a convenient server and a convenient client (for all platforms ofc), we could EASILY get the normies over. We would simply hide federation with other servers as a bonus feature for this app or whatever.

Ironically thats sounds like fucking threads.
I really prefer not making instances as a hidden feature but instead, front and center for everyone to see

@ashiisbest@comp.lain.la @0@gh0st.live [email protected] @maija@shitposter.world @prettygood@socially.drinkingatmy.computer im not sure if it would be better or worse to make federation hidden. I guess to make it "there" but not really discussed works? Idk, have to be very careful with fedi with normies because apparently any concept of it other than with email confuses them (and the only reason email doesnt confuse them is because its been drilled into their head).
