I burned a videocd intending to watch it on a portable DVD player, but it doesn't play videocds. (I had some CD‐Rs ready, but not DVD‐Rs. )Actually I've tried it on like 3 DVD players and none of them appear to support it. (I heard that videocd support was common in DVD players… )Thank you for reading my blog post.

@mikuphile@gearlandia.haus Are you sure you used the correct codec and settings?
It should be Mpeg 1 iirc

@mikuphile@gearlandia.haus also what authoring tool did you use. Maybe it requires it to be in some weird format vs a raw mpeg1 stream sitting in file format

@BlinkRape@posting.lolicon.rocks I used ffmpeg with just -target ntsc-vcd and then I used a soyware called vcdimager to create the image.

@mikuphile@gearlandia.haus weird. try and find the manual for your DVD player(s) and see what it says they support.

@mikuphile@gearlandia.haus lol this vcdimager software sucks, the hyperlink for "bleeding edge binaries" goes nowhere and just dumps you onto the same site.

@BlinkRape@posting.lolicon.rocks Yeah, I viewed an older version on web.archive.org.

@mikuphile@gearlandia.haus I installed it through apt on WSL
it made an image bin/cue set but when I mount it VLC won't play the disc either
I wonder if the authoring software is to blame.

@mikuphile@gearlandia.haus if you haven't already, just try burning the raw MPEG1 file to a disc as a file and see if the player will let you select and play it

@mikuphile@gearlandia.haus tried some other software too and can't figure out a way to make a working VCD/SVCD or anything lmao
idk what's going on anymore this is retarded. I might have some older commercial software that would work but other than that I'm out of ideas.
