What's the dumbest teacher you ever had?I got points off of an essay in 6th grade because I used the word "read" in present tense and my teacher kept reading it as past tense. I brought it up to him and he didn't understand that there are two ways to pronounce it.

@Foxfoley@paypig.org - https://paypig.org/@[email protected] My mom was once summoned to a parent teacher conference because I was reading books too advanced for my age. The teacher suggested to my Mom that she should send the teacher a list of books we had at home, and the teacher would provide an approved reading list. She said something along the lines of, "There are words in this book that I don't understand." Which my mom then asked me what I did when I found a word I didn't know, the answer was to look it up.

@Madcucks@paypig.org - https://paypig.org/@[email protected] in my experience, female teachers always tried to impede independent learning, while male teachers praised it. I'm sure it's nothing to do with gender though

@Madcucks@paypig.org - https://paypig.org/@Madcucks @Foxfoley@paypig.org - https://paypig.org/@Foxfoley When I was in second grade I tried to check out a book from the school library and was told that book was for 5th graders only (the highest grade at that particular school). I asked if there was some sort of permission form I could have my mom sign (because she would've been totally on board with it); the librarian said no. No matter what compromise I came up with there was no way around it, and I was so upset I started to cry... whereupon the librarian, in a panic, foisted the Nancy Drew series off on me. What gets me about it, to this day, is that my mom went to a great deal of time and trouble to inculcate a love of reading in me. She always encouraged me to read what I wanted and to come to her with any questions; she'd spent the better part of a decade doing this by that point. I wasn't lying or exaggerating when I told the librarian that my mom would've been fine with signing a permission form and going over the book with me to place everything in context.
