If he were in a police union, he'd be given 2 weeks of paid vacation, and no one could ask him what happened until he'd had at least 3 days to put together a good story, and even if he was found at fault, he would have no personal liability and could immediately get a new job with any other shipping company in the country. If he were in the postal worker's union he would be busy backdating mail-in ballots.
