Been playing KOTOR2, about half way through I think. And, the thing that is the most in my face is... EVERYONE IS CRANKY! At least Canderous had some wit and vibrancy.
And, every choice is made into a teachable moment, where the moral is, that good and bad, both lead to bad!
It somehow both feels longer than KOTOR1, and extremely short.
Also, also, every planet leaves you feeling like "what am I supposed to do next?" for good chunks. Particularly on "Nar Shaddaa" were you seem to have to wait for a timer to expire, and then things begin to progress.
There is a big difference between feeling lost because there are too many options, and feeling lost because there are no options.

Obsidian was rushed as hell making that game so you probably need mods to fill out the content. I've hated Kreia for 20 years and while I appreciate the writing a bit more now that I'm watching a vtuber play it I still think she's incoherent and the writing is ridiculous, trying to make destroying a planet and doing spaceman battles with Sith into mythical things of vastly undeserved importance. The latter you did for the entire runtime of KotOR1 without issue and the former you literally do twice in the prologue of KotOR2 also without issue. No other Star Wars product makes jedi and sith look like they do here.
Atton is a great rogue though.

@DrRyanSkelton@mugicha.club uhh, and, you know what, the dialog choices, I REALLY hate the dialog choices in KOTOR2.
Every time you meet a Jedi master or have to talk about Peragus-II, you always have to select some hyperbolic position, that has very little to do with what actually happened (often making an assertion that is factually incorrect).
It is the only star wars game that has ever made me want to do a dark-side run, because I hate so, many, of its inhabitants.
AND, the force-alignment-changes / companion-respect, get allocated for the most superficial of reasons.
I've stopped talking to them, because I was getting annoyed xD
I should probably just, switch to running the droids with me. And, yeah Atton is great as well.
I think at some point in my run here, all the, running back and forth, over the much larger maps, with no fast travel, has been wearing me down. Everything is SO pointlessly spread out, and you have to go to each person multiple times.
In KOTOR, you can cut through the planets like a blade. You can literally, never set foot in the same area twice, and nearly 100% complete the game. Why? Because you can pick things up as you go, talk to the people in that area, loot the things in that area, the first time.
It has turned into another case of, the first game, being MUCH better than the second. Even more so than MegaMan Legends 1&2.
And really, with both of these games, my favorite series, the first game had the elegance of something polished down until it was simple.
While the sequels, try to be clever, and deep, and they become complex and grindy.

The cut content really fucking hurts that game. It still probably wouldn't be as good as the first but it would be more coherent with it.

@Goalkeeper@nicecrew.digital @DrRyanSkelton@mugicha.club maybe, though I don't know what they could add, to make the bipolar and psychotic dialog actually flow.
It feels more like a broken plate, rather than a plate that needs to be larger.

The plate wouldn't be broken. You are adding the missing shards. My biggest problem is Nihilus and Scion just feel completely tacked on.

@hazlin@shortstacksran.ch @DrRyanSkelton@mugicha.club it's very difficult for me NOT to do a dark side run in any star wars game, on account of my personality. if kitsune were a species in the star wars universe, all of us that were force sensitive would be sith.
i should do streams of kotor, kotor2, and then the jedi knight story + shadow of revan from swtor.

KOTOR dark side run is probably the best dialog in that game so I approb if you want to do that as content.

Nihilus is the most retarded power creep I've ever seen in a vidya universe and he's still just some random boss in a stylish ship. Another thing. Your character is not an amnesiac but the game's writing is this weird mix of not explaining stuff your character should know and then insisting the player has strong feelings on things he did not hear before the conversation but both speaking game characters should have intimate knowledge of.
Atris is just a baffling character on every level.

replyReply to @[email protected]
Yeah it's really weird, you're not the same guy as the first game, and because they made Nihilus so retardedly overpowered they have to asspull you to be equally as overpowered at the 11th hour to explain how you can even fight him without being blinked out of existence immediately.

KotOR2 Dark Side requires you to bark at a bunch of people you are stuck with by happenstance like a psychopath expecting them not to chuck you out the airlock for yelling at them like that but otherwise the writing is good.

> overpowered at the 11th hour
I was wondering why the game felt so, broken by the 4th planet.
Kotor1 stayed pretty balanced all the way to the finish.
Kotor2, I am like pillar of death.
> Nihilus
I guess I'll be interested in how big he is, I don't recall ever having lost to him before, but maybe it will feel more balanced than this other stuff.

@Goalkeeper@nicecrew.digital @DrRyanSkelton@mugicha.club @hazlin@shortstacksran.ch at least the jedi exile's backstory somewhat explains why they can simply beat nihilus to death with a tire iron, his nonsense don't work when you've got the same force wound power/experience

@hazlin@shortstacksran.ch @DrRyanSkelton@mugicha.club @Goalkeeper@nicecrew.digital I thoroughly enjoyed how broken you could be in Kotor2.

@skylar@misskey.yandere.love @DrRyanSkelton@mugicha.club @Goalkeeper@nicecrew.digital @hazlin@shortstacksran.ch I liked concept of Darth Sion he was a decent monster. Hitting him with a saber is like hitting him with a toy baseball bat.

@Xenomorph@wolfgirl.bar @skylar@misskey.yandere.love @Goalkeeper@nicecrew.digital @hazlin@shortstacksran.ch both these guys felt like they were in the wrong game. They are so OP they make Vader look like a pussy and honestly they should have some menacing presence in the universe but they just don't. The entire universe is just a place to hold Kreias endless fucking text bubbles.

@DrRyanSkelton@mugicha.club @skylar@misskey.yandere.love @Goalkeeper@nicecrew.digital @hazlin@shortstacksran.ch I feel that was originally the point. These guys weren't just sith they were abominations that should not have existed so they were forgotten in universe like a collective bad nightmare.
I remember when I first played and saw Sion I thought he looked and sound like a cenobite from Hellraiser.
