@Witch_Hunter_Siegfired@poa.st Rule system is quite fun, setting is also not bad per say... but it's written with such a hard clearly scewed bias that you'd almost think it was ironically written as in universe propaganda.
Tl;dr humanity becomes space fairing with light speed travel under the rule of FirstCom, sets out to colonize the stars. SecCom (the name of the interstellar empire formed after FTL travel was developed) sent ships of their own out, some beating the FirstCom colonists creating land ownership disputes. And then a Dune-esc space nomad faction declared war on them. And then an unworldly eldritch god spawned in, stole the moon and created eldritch super AI. And then aliens extremists sabotaged peace talks with SecCom starting another intergalactic war that was resolved by nuking the aliens to oblivion because they developed tech too fast.
After all of these unwarranted hardships, ThirdCom backstabbed SecCom and usurped control setting up a hippie commune government where you have to play by their absurd highly idealistic rules or you get cut off from the infinite resource machines.

I’ve heard similar issues with Traveler, where what’s supposed to be the LE EBIL FASCISTS are quite understandable and justified.

@Witch_Hunter_Siegfired@poa.st More or less, SecCom is written as a hard evil, unwarrantedly milatiristic faction as if they weren't just taking action to defend themselves from a galaxy openly threatening them.
If you go check out their reddit you can see funny things like people siding with the Eldritch Space AI appearing and forcing an ultimatum making SecCom ban research into immortality. "How else do you negotiate with fascist warmongers..." etc etc.

@Witch_Hunter_Siegfired@poa.st I only speak about Lancer the way I do though because the lore of the setting is incredibly in depth, has genuinely well written representation of a society of it's scale, and places SecCom through a gauntlet of genuinely interesting and unique political scenarios, only to come out through it all and try to paint SecCom as pure evil and ThirdCom (which even by the books own admittance is decadent and soft handed to the point of near incompetence in some regards) is the one true good that transcends all of it's faults.
