We're evolving, but backwards.

how do zoomers play games usually anyway

@lapin@varishangout.net @TsukiIsBased@varishangout.net they watch starter guides before playing a game and when they encounter even the slightest roadblock, they look up the solution instead of trying to overcome it

@lapin@varishangout.net @Meemoo@varishangout.net With their brains off.
Fun is secondary. You need to play by skipping all cutscenes, using tons of video guides without even playing, and turn on infinite hp cheats or shit like that.

@lapin@varishangout.net @TsukiIsBased@varishangout.net and yes they do exist I kid you not

@TsukiIsBased@varishangout.net @lapin@varishangout.net zoomies don't play games for fun.
They "play" so they can gloat on social media that they did.
Here's my personal favorite, they look up guides for a game that derives it's fun from learning through trial and error

@Meemoo@varishangout.net @lapin@varishangout.net Pretty much this. They play so they can say they're gamers by having a large library. When all they did was cheat the best strats from day 1 and took zero time to understand the game mechanics.
A lot of them even skip the cutscenes, and only look up the cutscenes when they need to, on 2x speed.... I've seen people like that myself.

I have to watch starter guides, but that's because I play Chinese games that have no explanation in English.

@lapin@varishangout.net @Meemoo@varishangout.net @TsukiIsBased@varishangout.net Watch 37 YouTube videos, try to imitate what pro players do like monkeys at a typewriter, get frustrated when they can’t be esports gods, break controllers

@Dudebro@nicecrew.digital @Meemoo@varishangout.net @lapin@varishangout.net What's a language issue in games that can't be resolved by using a translator, and how does a starter guide fix that issue? Genuinely curious.

Explaining feng shui mechanics and interaction of Chinese elements. They did fix it later with a community chat option that you could click an item and it would explain it. But watching rimworld style pawns die because doors are not on the wrong side and buildings are built incorrectly with elements was hard for someone who at the time knew jack shit about Chinese myth.

@Dudebro@nicecrew.digital @TsukiIsBased@varishangout.net @lapin@varishangout.net I played games in Japanese on the PS2 as a kid without knowing a lick of moonrunes and beat them. Heck, I couldn't read English until late into the PS3 era.
Sounds like skill tissue tbh desu senpai

@Meemoo@varishangout.net @Dudebro@nicecrew.digital @TsukiIsBased@varishangout.net @lapin@varishangout.net I've done it, I just feel like I have a hard time engaging with the game doing it.

@Meemoo@varishangout.net @TsukiIsBased@varishangout.net @lapin@varishangout.net gotta say though, there are some games whose learning curve is too steep at times. F&H is one of then, Dont Starve too, and Project Zomboid.
There's a lot of ways things can go wrong, so having a basic knowledge helps greatly.

@supersid333@varishangout.net @Dudebro@nicecrew.digital @TsukiIsBased@varishangout.net @lapin@varishangout.net it's because we have a lot of other options nowadays.
Back then I had to make do with what I had.
One funny instance I remember is owning both the English and Japanese versions of bodukai tenkaichi 3 but only beating the Japanese one somehow

@Dudebro@nicecrew.digital @Meemoo@varishangout.net @TsukiIsBased@varishangout.net @lapin@varishangout.net Oh I know the game you're describing. Alternatively fucking up the Feng Shui of a room and accidentally setting the person who lives in it on fire is hillarious.

@TsukiIsBased@varishangout.net @lapin@varishangout.net @Meemoo@varishangout.net Modern media is designed around hack TV/Movie writers getting booed out of hollywood and "settling" on writing for games and comics. Which leads to unhappy writers writing stories that translate miserably to the medium they are on which makes the customer also unhappy.
