Perfect example of why I am not a libertarian: Usury should be banned and unconscionable outstanding loans forgiven. That includes all student loans and the national debt.

@econengineer@bitcoinhackers.org Why wouldn't it? Contracts are the very definition of the voluntarist society. A usurious loan can be agreed to by both parties unless the sovereign exists to forbid it.
judgedread - https://freespeechextremist.com/users/judgedread I'll admit, my response was bait. It worked. But to my actual point: What you said in response is correct. However, in a free society usury "can" exist. Doesn't mean it will exist or will be everywhere. Also trend towards going away. But if the system allows for it to be banned (via governmental violence) then usury will always exist.

@econengineer@bitcoinhackers.org In every culture where moneylenders could operate with no cap on interest rates there has been debt slavery. Observing furniture rental stores, payday loans, loan sharks, credit card fees and interest rates since SCOTUS removed the brakes and student loan slavery it is clear that the majority cannot handle the offer of free money now in exchange for slavery / indentured servitude later. It must be forbidden, just like recreational opioid sales.

@judgedread@freespeechextremist.com in a free society all jews would have been executed for pedophelia without someone intervening to silence their accusers so no one would be left who is morally or ethically inclined to commit usury
