How are big media corporations still not obsolete in 2021 when the first hand info about any subject of interest you search for on the internet is more precise and safe than anything you find in newspaper nowadays. The freedom of the press is a constitutional right (at least where I live) and the purpose for it is, as written in said constitution, to be an instrument of the citizen that guarantees the transparency of the politics in power by reporting and challenging their decisions. When the media itself becomes politically aware, cutting out information from whatever they report, the balance completely shifts towards those in power. It’s a complete violation of said freedom of the press. Saying "we can write whatever we want and no-one has the right to censor us", that’s also just using part of the info to fit a narrative.

I know this is common sense and has been said by everyone for years but the recent contrast in news coverage depending on who is elected in whatever western country (this is not a jab at the US alone, far from there) is getting so aggressive it’s actually ridiculous

@FireSisterBee@poa.st there's people that due to being used to said media, blindly trust them. There's also the fact that if it says stuff that people like, it will make said people continue consuming the content said media corp puts out. That said, there's been reports that they are losing money and subscriptions.

@FireSisterBee@poa.st I sometimes consume said media, mostly in the form of TV, and I can now see when they're trying to push shit, hell, even my mom does. It still contains a modicum of facts in it's content, so it's just a matter of filtering out their biases.

@FireSisterBee@poa.st One word. Boomers. New generations trust the media less and less, and so as the boomers disappear, the medias grip on information weakens. It's very telling her where the papers need constant money from the government to not go bankrupt. Eventually they will cost too much for not enough gain and that's when they'll finally be put down.

@FireSisterBee@poa.st pretty much everything corpo media says is a fucking lie. meanwhile I prepped for the corona panic weeks in advance because of fucking Styx and molymeme. not a peep from the media about it before shit hit the fan. Corpo media got TV monopoly, and they're moving to the internet and being algorithmically supported by big tech. but they'll start to become obsolete the more we make things decentralized. they won't be able to censor us/target individuals/monopolize anymore. From there it'll be a race by corpos to see how fast they can fuck up the internet with some gay ass legislation

@smugumin@poa.st Sad to see but you're right. Also, I blame media pressure for most "bad political decisions" concerning covid management. At least in our country, whenever the new measures were not accordingly to what corpo media was predicting, the screeching was terrible and bad articles about the politicians in charge kept happening until they changed whatever they had planned. This then created a lot of unnecessary chaos and contradictions -> fodder for news -> sleep, repeat

@FireSisterBee@poa.st yeah sadly it seems media just controls everything now. it tells everyone what to think and no one doubts it or holds it accountable. btw have you seen mr coco? you should try to convince him to come join us. i really miss him
