They basically told me to fuck off and sue them if I wanted it back. Didn't have funds for that as I was unemployed at the time so I took the opportunity to switch to Pleroma which I had found out about after starting Mastodont instance and liked how customisable it was. I already owned Neckbeard.xyz and thought it'd be a good fit so I went with that. Also the people who run .XYZ are actually competent and want it to be a legitimate product rather than a virtue signal so I'm not too worried. Already had a mass report campaign to the .XYZ folks for "child porn." They just said, "Uh, this is the wrong chain of command but I guess we can forward this on to the registrar." My registrar contacted me and pretty much just asked that since I allow user generated content I need to have a contact email easily visible on the home page. Told them I would do that and that that was a good idea regardless of the circumstances. So I added my email to the about page and to the sidebar.

Then it asked me for a username and I thought sjwfeminism.lgbt would be funny. I didn't even know about all the alt-left instances when I made my instance or how Mastodont was marketed as "Twitter but without the Nazis." Hell, I didn't even know about dot social. The only way I knew about Mastodont was that Pixiv ran Pawoo. Pawoo was literally the only other instance I knew about when I first started. The name and everything was just a troll shitpost that I did because I just thought it'd be funny and it gave me an opportunity to finally use the domain I'd owned for about two years at that point. I had no idea what it'd quickly turn into.

IIRC the dude was just asking for clarification on documentation and the fact that Pleroma devs had the audacity to actually provide clarification and allow him to not only use but also extend the AGPL code was what did it. It's never been endorsed unless you count the devs saying "this thing also exists" as an endorsement. In that case by acknowledging the existence of Microsoft Windows the FSF officially endorses Microsoft Windows.
