Ah gotcha. The ones I ran into were pretty adamant about it.

It's not salvation it is a testimony. The blood of Christ washing sin and believing and accepting is salvation

Okay now one of them is saying it's not necessary.

Agreed. I see it more as us openly declaring that we are joining the war on the side of God.

Baptists make my brain hurt.
I'm non denominational, but looks to me like the presbys and Lutherans and Catholics have baptism right

What bothered me was when they were doing it with squirt guns during the plandemic, as if God would be fooled into not seeing their total unbelief, crippling fear of the sniffles, and pathetic cowardice in the face of fines. It reeked of "sabbath light switch" nonsense. I don't believe in infant baptism (nor do I believe that it is sinful), but surely their actions will be counted against them because *they* believed in it.

I believe that infant baptism is fine so long as there's a confirmation of faith at a later point.

That's what the rite of Confirmation is for. I actually would agree with the Baptists with about infant baptism if that rite didn't exist. It's absolutely necessary for a confirmation to happen in later childhood or teenage years.

Theology is messed up, there should be a right answer, and everyone thinks they have it figured out.
It interests me but theology discussions can get so spergy that usually is best to avoid

It's kind of like a prolonged baptism. Infant baptism is more or less insurance of the kid's soul. It became popular since so many kids died back in the day.
