are you not paying attention to the corruption of purpose of so many organizations in the FLOSS arena? why would any software monopolist wish to separate the organization who may publish the next version of the GPL from its primary author? why would they wish to remove someone with RMS's resolve from the directing body of the organization who could sue infringers of GNU copyrights? the attack has been masterfully played, in convincing and coopting a large number of decent people into believing, spreading and undersigning a lot of horrible and false allegations, even if they have other legitimate grievances the real attackers, who oppose software freedom, have nothing to lose. even if the decapitation fails, it still divides the community over very emotional and toxic subjects, and assassinates the reputation of a difficult but very good human being falsely turned into a monster

@lxo@gnusocial.net @liw@toot.liw.fi I don't understand, why you folks want to worship a figure (FSM) to support a faith? It's like an evil cult.

@snow@wintermute.fr.to @lxo@gnusocial.net @liw@toot.liw.fi >why you folks want to worship a figure >worship a figure >worship If pointing out obvious lies of people against another one and supporting the victim is considered worshipping, then I'm guilty of worshipping EsR,Torvalds and many other people who have had their lives ruined with similar methods. >It's like an evil cult. A cult needs a central figure that demands to be worshipped, it demands that people obey mindlessly to anything, it demands that people sacrifice their freedom and many more. I can say without a doubt that this is not a cult. https://invidiou.site/watch?v=EBK5aKOr2Fw If you were referring to people who have a biased or obsessional interests about someone then it's more likely to be a form of mental issue which can be caused by a plethora of things. lxo - https://gnusocial.net/lxo liw - https://toot.liw.fi/@liw I share your concerns but I think your response to addressing them is misguided. I'm sure Microsoft and Apple and Google are delighted to see Stallman criticized and removed from leadership. But I don't think that means we shouldn't do it. We can more effectively fight our adversaries by decentralizing leadership and building a bigger, broader, more inclusive movement than relying on the will of one man (who of course is only mortal and won't be around forever anyway).

lxo - https://gnusocial.net/lxo liw - https://toot.liw.fi/@liw This reminds me of the story of Leland Smith and the SCORE software he wrote for sheet music engraving. He refused to let anyone continue his legacy, and as a result the software became unmaintained and abandoned. Fortunately the MuseScore community has kept it alive in their new music font inspired by Leland's work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGo4PJd1lng&t=971s - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGo4PJd1lng&t=971s

we all want a bigger, broader, more inclusive movement, but decentralized leadership is not such a great idea for a political movement. as I wrote elsewhere earlier today, dilution of leadership makes it more difficult to overcome inertia and bring about changes, which is the purpose of any political movement. that said, we absolutely need to have succession plans with groups (because nobody alone can hope to fill his many shoes) for each of his responsibilities. the transitions have to be voluntary, however, otherwise they amount to hostile take-overs, which are really not ok, not for him, and not for the community, that has spoken very strongly against such a take-over in 2019, and again now.
